Injector Coding Explained: Why Your Van Misfires After ‘New’ Injectors

Tech2 injector correction coding on a Vauxhall Vivaro at DXR Motors

“Plug-and-Play” Injectors Are a Myth

Modern Renault & Vauxhall diesels store a 30-digit C2i/C3i trim code in the ECU.
Skip the coding step and the ECU sprays fuel as if the old injector were still fitted—cue rough idle, smoke and P0201-P02XX fault codes.

What Is Coding?

Entering each injector’s unique flow-rate number into the ECU so it can balance fuel delivery within ±1 µs.

Symptoms When Skipped

- Hunting idle
- Diesel knock under load
- Excessive smoke
- DPF regen every 100 mi

Tools We Use

Bosch KTS, OEM Clip & Tech2 + PicoScope waveform to validate current draw.

FAQs

Can I reuse old trim codes? No—each injector has its own calibration. Reusing codes can over- or under-fuel cylinders.
Will coding improve MPG? Yes; balanced injectors restore factory MPG and reduce DPF regens.
Do I need ECU programming tools? Absolutely; handheld scanners can’t write Trim codes. We use dealership-level software.
